2nd Time Covering Forba & Horse Replacement

Today was great! Man he is getting this down. Ha ha ha seriously right it’s like he need training to breed mares. First I wrapped Forba’s tail again and then put her in the teasing stall. Wynter was ecstatic and tried to rear up 3 times at the stall door. I had to yank him down hard when he got close enough to he bars to smack them with him feet. Once he did that I brought him back to him room and had Mom bring Forba in the arena.

She was way more in today than she was yesterday. She peed instantly and he dropped and got hard in record time. I was very happy with him. He sniffed her a few times and then jumped up on her. He couldn’t find her so I had to assist him. I felt like such a breeder ha ha. Some of the stupidest things make me feel like I achieved so much! I swear there is something wrong with my brain.

He was super quick and he got most of it in her this time!!! He had a few drops as he relaxed but most of it was good! I feel excellent about this covering. I think she is bred but then again I think Forba is a fertile Myrtle. I was so proud of Wynter he did his job perfectly! He went in did it and got out. It didn’t take forever and he was not biting her or anything. Perfect great covering.

I need to ask Tague how much it would cost me to get Wynter’s seamen evaluated. I’d love to know the quality. I will not cover them tomorrow but I will if she is still in on Sunday. I do want to clean Wynter though So I will have to tease Forba with him so I can do that.

In other news…. Please say hello to this decades Horse. Horses are soon to be replaced by this….

Freaky hu? I found it very entertaining. I loved the part when they kicked it. I had to share and no it is not replacing horses it is for the soldiers at war. It can carry up to 340 pounds and can walk via remote or it will follow a person. Man technology theses days.

First Cover

FYI this post is a bit on the graphic end as it involves hand breeding. Cal yourself officially warned.

We teased Forba and Wynter yesterday evening and he loved it. It took him forever to drop though. I’m was worried that it would take him forever to get ready.

Today we go to the barn late but I wanted to cover Forba anyway. I brought her in through the arena and tied her in an empty stall. Fetching Wynter I let him tease her for a bit so that he could get in the mood. I was also waiting for my mom to arrive.

When she got there I brought Wynter to his room and she tied Forba’s tail so that it was out of the way. She then brought her in the pen and I went in with Wynter. Two steps out of his stall and he was prancing and whinying. I think he is learning! Ha ha ha mocho man he is neck arch and all. He is really good off of the chain in his mouth and is very very respectful of me which I appreciate. He went into the pen like the stud that he is and Forba stood like a rock. She is the world best are for a green stallion. She stood very still for him as he nickered at her and told her sweet nothings. He then started nipping her all over which I remember he had done the year before. I would let him to little love nips but I would yank on his face if he tried to bite. He would also sniff her beck legs and I was worried that he could kick and nail him to I wouldn’t let him sniff passed her hocks. He found that frustrating a few times. I never gave him the opportunity to mount her when he was not ready. I’d check him before he could take lift off.

The new guy that he is he decided that he was ready and he wanted her. Before I could pull him he reared up and mounted her. The thing was he was breeding her flank. Seriously men, she should know where to put the thing I swear! Stallions are strong I reamed on him but he would come down and on top of that I didn’t want to yank him off of her which I could have done. The reason being he was hard and it was slammed into her side I did not want to risk hurting him. So I check him and had mom walk Forba forward. She was reluctant to move for him. I swear here he is not even in the right spot and she will stand for him.

Once we did that he suck it back up and he had to sniff her for a few seconds and then he mounted in the correct spot. I would hate to be a mare. He landed on her hard and kept moving his front feet around on her sides. You can tell he is new because it took him all of 5 second to finish and slide off of her. I was not to happy as most of it ended up on the arena floor. He came back pretty quick and started to try and flirt with her again but I figured that would work for the first time. We will do it tomorrow and hope for a better cover.

Teasing Forba Day One

First of all I want to tell you guys about Wynter’s sister blog! Not really a sibling but another blog that I have started involving our breeding. More specifically Marquisse. I will be tracking her breeding through carrying, foaling and then follow the baby as it gets older. As we are also breeding two other mares updates on those two will probably be gone over as well.

So here is the link… Its the most Fantastic Thing

If you go to the other blog you will be able to get a better run down of what happened with the vet today. After our vet left I went and got Wynter out of his pasture and half way down the hill I slipped his chain through his mouth. I lead him over to Marquisse who happened to be at the end run and let him flirt. He loved that! He loves it! He then pranced his way to his room in all his stud glory.

I pulled his blanket off and brought him into the wash rack and got the warm water going and then Liz brought up Forba. He was so happy. My goal was to have him drop so I could clean him but he took forever! My gosh he is such a newbie. He just stood there and nickered at her for ever.

Forba was hysterical. She is usually a crack head 80% of the time but she is so Haflinger like when around Wynter. She just stood there and did the ogling eyes at him. Can you say Mcdreamy, ha ha ha. Wynter was blowing and snorting so much that he was blowing her hair around and she just stood there a suck it up and lovely like. She then nibbled on his nose and he lost it. He dropped.

I rushed in and got the Excalibur on it and was able to get it almost all off when he sucked it back up. It took a while and after he tried to rear several times in the cross ties. Which was the only then he got yelled at for. He was really good about that. He’d rear up and I’d grab his lead as he still had the chain in his mouth and check him once. He would hop down. Most of the time all I had to day was Hey in a slightly sharp voice and he’d keep all four hooves on the ground. Super nice guy really.

He was really good about the whole thing he kept looking at me like this was the most frustrating thing in the world. Here was a girl in front of him that I was not saying no to and he was in the CROSS TIES. Ahh poor poor stallion. I was happy to see how respectful he was to me most of the time. He would do a big douse of flirting and then look at me mostly to make sure it was still ok.

He then dropped again and I was able to get the last of it and the he sucked it up again. That time I just grabbed the hose and went about spraying him up there and he dropped much quicker. He must have liked the warm water. I got him all nice and clean and nodded to Liz to take Forba away. He wasn’t to happy about that. He looked at me like WHAT are you KIDDING? I pulled his chain from his mouth and tossed it under his chin.

I let him get away with yelling but I did smack him for prancing back to him room. I just left him at that I didn’t want to bother wrestling with him to stand still for his blankets then. So Liz and I took Marz and Arlo out for a ride when we came back I put his blanket on. He was still an ass and got in serious trouble for not standing still. I held up his blanket and he let me put it around his neck but then he took a step around me and forward. We went around the stall for about 5 second of me being nice when I threw the blanket over him and smacked him around the stall for a second. After that he stood still. I’m sorry but there is a time and place for acting like that and blanketing was not one of them. Gosh MEN, I swear.

When I end or rather if I end up with a husband the saying “Every thing I know I learn from my horse” will ring dreadfully true.

What is it?

Rode Wynter today yay! First I turned him out in the pen to get the bucks out I don’t know how I knew but I knew he was full of energy. I brought him out and I walked him in a circle after the circle was complete he thought he was free and decided to leap up in the air while I still had him. Well, now that was pretty rude! So he got smacked for it and gave me this look like” I’m sorry I didn’t know I was still attached!!!” I almost laughed if he hadn’t have just given me an almost rope burn.

Turning him loose he bucked and buck and galloped and galloped. Around and around he went around the pen like a Haflinger on fire. He loves his canter. After he settled down he went over to Liz and told her he was done. She was standing at the opposite end of the pen watching him with me. Tacking him up I was looking at his back and I was really happy with how it looks he is gaining muscle in his withers and I like it! His hips are also good he is getting in shape! Yay!

We stood at the mounting block for a while today and watched Liz ride Arlo around. Then for fun I lifted both reins and asked him to collect the same way I would with a curb. He did he dropped and rounded himself. He is such a good boy. I trotted him around and instantly felt something off. I just couldn’t figure it out. I rode him around for a while at the posting and sitting trot and just couldn’t peg it. It wasn’t his shoulder or really his hip it felt more like a rib cage but I just couldn’t put my finger on it. I was on the other hand able to manage it and get him to work but he was still off or funny to the left and heavy on the right rein.

His canter to the right was also pretty bad. He wanted to pop off when he wanted to and blow through the right rein which got him in a backwards motion before he could lift off. His down transition was also crap! I was really surprised at that he can usually down transition from the canter quite well. Today he just blew through the right rein and trotted off.

We did more to the right than the left lead and got the up transition pretty well corrected. I cut my losses with the down transition or I would have been at it for a while and he was being quiet. I didn’t want to get him upset trying to win a downhill battle. So I called it a night. He was pretty happy abut that. Sorry not much for today just a small work out.

Liz Rode Wynter & Show Saddles

Today Liz got me up and was begging me to go on a trail ride… and it was raining. Ah I don’t think so I am what they call a fair weather rider. Just because I have a trailer horses tack and gas in my truck doe not mean that the gods of weather are shining upon us inviting us to go on a trail ride. Nope not today they were really saying they wanted to water the trails not crazy riders on there not very happy freezing wet horses. So I told her no over and over again and she just kept at it so I said maybe if it stops raining after my lesson at three. She then happily offered to ride Wynter for me.

So I went to the barn an hour before my lesson and gave a lesson to Liz on Wynter. Is my boy in shape or is he in shape we did a lot of canter work and I barely got him winded! Not once did he ever break out in sweat he barely got warm and we only had two short walk breaks. Hmm well I guess I shouldn’t complain about a horse that is in shape right?

Well, Liz walked and trotted him around and did a bunch on canter work with him. I really think her riding him helps her more than it does him. He is the poster child of a green horse ready for a cub bit. He is uber soft knows his body parts and love to work. He is really right where he needs to be training wise and in fact he is better off than the rest of my herd. The only one not corrupted. He was started correctly and I know a lot more now than I did with ay of the other horses.

I think we figured this was the 3 or 4th time Liz has ridden him and it was good. He really shows her what a western horse ‘should’ feel like. He also carries his own head so her hands get a vacation which is not the norm. He does have shoulder issues as you al know and since Liz has been having that issue with Toccata this was a good lesson for her. You can really feel when he is off in the shoulder because he just stops all correct functioning. That helped her on her feel she was saying that she forgot how much fun he was to ride he is so easy and uncomplicated. He really is if you know a little about riding a show horse.

Riding a show horse at least any of mine are backward. The leg aids for canter are backward and you steer with the outside rein bla bla a lot of people get confused. Then again I teach a lot of beginner riders. All in all it was a great ride for them both and I am glad she got him out.

In other news my 5 year old student trotted off of the lunge line for the first time today I am so proud. So was she, she was beaming!

I really want a show saddle! The few photos you see me riding in a show saddle are in borrowed ones. I got a few very nice friends but they have since sold all here show stuff so I have no resources to a show saddle. To bad they cost an arm and a leg! I have been keeping my eyes open and for fun I wanted t post a few of my dream saddles and there ummm prices… Seriously I’d have to take out a small loan for some of these I will also post a few low quality saddles so that you can see the difference.

So anyone wanna pitch in and get a nice pleasure saddle for Wynter?

I have a hard time trying to decide on a color they have about 20 different shades I swear! They have this super white one which I don’t care for honestly then they have a honey, red, chocolate and black. In the beginning I thought a dark oil saddle would really pop on Haflinger but I’m not really sure anymore. What do you guys think?

Brand name wise my all time favorite is Dale Chevez! I love them! My trainer let me use her DC show saddle for several shows and I kick myself in the butt every show for not buying it! It was very comfortable and it fit the Haflinger’s back nicely. Now if I had the money blue ribbons would be sweet but alas I do not.

Then there is always tooling. They have about 10 different ways of tooling and you can mix and match most any of them. Talk about custom. I like the rode or flower ones I really don’t like the basket look.

Here are some neat saddles….

This one is ok I don’t care for the tooling on the edges and I like a smaller horn but it is very pretty only $6,500 not including the pad which is an extra $275

I know I said I don’t like the basket tooling but I would be happy to put his on any of our guys! Again $6,500.

I do not care for this one but I did one to point out the horn. Like the one above it is a silver horn which I have a soft spot for but with saying that look at the difference. I like the smaller fat horn of the one above. That is the perfect horn in my book. This guy is only $6,200

This one almost looks reiner like to me it has a very small skirt unlike all the others it does not come down all that far. A bargain at $6,000

I kinda like this one. I think the gold would really pop on a Haflinger. It also looks smaller not so bulky on a Haflinger either. This is only $6,200.

…. I am nearly speechless!! I really think that this would POP on a Haflinger. This one is the icing on the cake at $7,200.

I found this one different. I looks huge! I think it could quite nearly eat Wynter! Pony eater at $5,400

Same saddle as the black/tan stunner above but this time a chestnut lining instead. This could also make a Haflinger look sheik. Wynter would love it! Cheaper too at $6,400.

The squared off edges are a new thing… or at least 5 to 7 years new. They look sharp but some horses can’t ware them. They are like skinny jeans, some look good and some do not. I think Wynter could pull the look off. I always thought he was a pretty edgy guy! $5,400

Talk about ice! $6,000

I just had to post this mainly for reference later. I would not buy it but to each there own. Remember this price $4,950.

I found all of the above at http://www.windstormranch.com/

Next website… http://www.sackettridge.com/ the first thing I noticed was the price difference. Wow. That black and tan one above that is selling for $7,200 is only $4,999.99 talk about a steal!! Ha ha ha I am cracking myself up. Seriously though that is a HUGE price difference. Talk about checking around, my advice show here ha ha.

This is bar none, hands down the nicest Circle Y I have EVER seen. Steal it for $3,799.99

This is a pretty nice Billy Cook saddle I found at http://www.horsesaddleshop.com/ for $3,052.50

br1

Blue Ribbon saddle need I say more… $10,845

Br2

Choke a the price of….S11,396.

BR3

USED Blue Ribbon for only $6,550.

Okay I thought BR were spendy…. Here are some Harris saddles.

Only $13,795 but it is a frickin nice saddle!

I love the fender details on theses saddles! Sweet for $16,795.

Love the diamonds on this one, $14,195.

This would look really sharp on Wynter for $12,595.

This is my all time favorite saddle design. The saddle bags LOVE them!! $11,095.

Well, darn as much fun as that was it does not put one on Wynter’s back.

Last Sunday

I have been slacking and it is not really to fault my laziness. It was a know fact that my computer died.... It was very very sad but luckily my Dad came to the rescue and brought it to the same guy who fixed his. Well, it took a life time but I got it back yesterday from the doctor! I was so excited I hugged it and kissed it.

I have been riding Wynter believe it or not. I rode him to get ready for the EMR show last Sunday (Feb 7, 2010). He was schooling pretty good I think... ohhh yes we has a very very bad ride! I remember now he tried to crow hope and rear and buck and he got his butt whooped every time he tried once he got over all that he was a rock star. Stallions I swear!

On show day we arrived and had to park in the back because the font of the parking lot where we usually park was full. As we pull up into the back parking lot I seen my trainers trailer and I got super excited!! I haven't seen her forever.... after registering I started to tack up Wynter and she came back to her trailer which I slammed my trailer next to. She was happy and came and gave me a hug. She also said she LOVED her Christmas present which I sent off a while ago... it was late but she got it. She said she loved it and it looked just like her stallion. Here I will add a photo I took before I popped it in the mail.

Ggold

It was super neat to see her but she couldn't stay for western which was a bummer. Now I am itching to get a lesson. His warm up was great and he was really good loud but good. He was a lot more content and quieter when Toccata was near when she went off he wasn't to happy. So we stood there in the rain and waited for classes. I only entered two as I am broke!

Our first class was horrid! He was WAY to forward now if I was riding English he would have won hands down but he was a freight train. Then again I tend to act like a perfectionist when at shows but still. Anyways it was an Eq class and I was schooling so we got 6th. My eq has seriously taken a nose dive since I started. I need to start working on that. Maybe I could ride Forba and do that?

So before our pleasure class I was working some of the energy out of Wynter in the round pen which is the shows warm up pen. I just went from a canter to a walk when this girl who was having trouble with her horse back right into Wynter. She has been have forward issues for a while and I was giving her space but her mare just made a u shape and slammed into Wynter hip. He has NEVER had anyone hit him before so I was not sure what was going to happen. Before I knew it he planted both back feet on the mare. Now this is where my brain kicked in right after all the stay in the saddle mumbojumbo. I could have kicked his royal ass for it but you know what she back into me and he was already worked up about the whole deal. My first instinct was to ignore it and put him straight back to work. I pulled him away and trotted him off and then stopped him and looked at the girl. First I asked if her mare was ok and she nodded while petting her mare rump then I said I was sorry but he was a stallion. She just glared at me and said well where lucky she didn't kick back. I smiled and put him back to work. I sure am happy I don't have back shoes on Wynter, that is for sure. I was not at all happy with the girl attitude like it was my fault she in fact backed into me but getting in an argument about it would have gotten neither of us or our horses anywhere. So I let it go and like I said went back to work.

Now with all that over with I look back at it and wonder if I should have killed him for kicking? My first instinct was to get him moving forward and doing something else getting his mind off of the fact that some one just body slammed him. It worked after we stopped he was nice and relaxed like nothing happened. I tend to just go with my gut feeling when I ride I try not to over think. When you over think you tend to miss your time limit with horses. So I will have to ask my trainer when I go see her what she would have done. I have a feeling she would have killed him but you never know.

I had to take a few days off from riding as I had a HUGE group speech project to do today and now that it is over I feel SO much better. I now need to get back to practice as I plan on going to the Horseplay show down in Spanaway on the 20th. I have yet to find out if I will be going alone or not. I hope I can find someone to go with me or convince my trainer to go ha ha.

I will leave you with a photo I found online. If it was chestnut wit flaxen mane and tail it would be Wynter to the t. It made me laugh pretty hard. This is soooooo Wynter except he has 3 blankets and a neck warmer on.
